ERNEST HOO KIM

O produtor jamaicano de descendência chinesa Ernest Hoo Kim e seu irmão Joseph Hoo Kim eram os donos do selo e estúdio de gravação Channel One que contava com sua banda de estúdio The Revolutionaries e a eterna dupla Sly And Robbie.

Em 1972, impressionado com o estúdio Dynamic Sounds do produtor Bunny Lee, Joseph e Ernest decidiram criar o Channel One Studios, na Maxfield Avenue (West Kingston). Trabalhando em uma máquina de quatro faixas, Syd Bucknor tornou-se o primeiro engenheiro de som de Bunny Lee. Um ano mais tarde, ele foi substituído pelo Ernest Hoo Kim. Nesta época também tiveram sua própria fábrica e oficina de impressão de etiquetas.

Os outros irmãos Paul e Kenneth Hoo Kim também foram envolvidos.Boa parte da produção do label pode ser conferida em coletâneas como Hit Bound: The Revolutionary Sound Of Channel One e Channel One Well Charged.
 Ernest Hoo Kim era engenheiro de gravação e mixagem,e trabalhou com nomes como Gregory Isaacs,Cornell Campbell,Jimmy Riley,Mighty Diamonds,Big Joe,Revolutionaries,Jimmy Riley,Wailing Souls,Toyan,Dillinger,Jah Woosh,I-Roy,Dr. Alimantado, Leroy Smart,Maytones,Lambert Douglas,Mikey Dread, Prince Far I, Yellowman, Tommy McCook , Bobby Ellis,e muitos outros..

Os Hoo Kim foram gradualmente perdendo o interesse no negócio de reggae. Quando houve a mutação ao estilo dancehall e ragga totalmente digital, em meados dos anos 1980, ele e seus irmãos em grande parte desistiram do Channel One, e o estúdio e os rótulos foram fechados até o final da década.Joseph Hoo Kim ficou em Nova York e manteve o controle da gravadora Pressure Sounds..
