Nascida em 1952, a cantora jamaicana Merlene Webber (ou Merlyn Webber, Marlene Webber) começou sua carreira ao lado de sua irmã Joyce no grupo Webber Sisters. Merlene gravou com o Studio One, tanto com sua irmã como solo, lançando faixas como “You I Love” e “No Happiness”. Em 1976, sua cover de Cat Stevens “The First Cut is the Deepest” foi um sucesso jamaicano.
No mesmo ano,1976 gravou um álbum solo  ´Once You Hit The Road´ suportada pelo grupo Skin, Flesh And Bones..
 O disco foi produzido por Lloyd Campbell,engenhado por Errol Thompson,e gravado e remixado nos estúdios GG's ,em Kingston, Jamaica..
Trouxe temas como  Letter To Mummy And Daddy,Forget The Past,As Long As You Love Me,No More Running,May Be The Next Time,Stand By Your Man,Once You Hit The Road,First Cut Is The Deepest,He Will Have To Stay e What Good Am I..
Merlene apareceu igualmente em diversas coletâneas da Trojan Records,Studio One e outros selos..
