Playing for Change é um projeto musical multimídia , criado pelo produtor americano e engenheiro de som Mark Johnson com seu Timeless Media Group , que visa reunir músicos de todo o mundo. Playing for Change também criou um separado organização sem fins lucrativos chamado Playing For Change Foundation ,que constrói escolas de música para crianças ao redor do mundo. O projeto começou em 2004 com o objetivo da organização auto-descrito como "inspirar, conectar e trazer a paz ao mundo através da música". Os criadores do projeto, Mark Johnson e Enzo Buono, viajaram ao redor do mundo para lugares como Nova Orleans , Barcelona , África do Sul , Índia , Nepal , o Oriente Médio e Irlanda . Usando equipamento de gravação móvel, a dupla gravou músicos locais que executam a mesma canção, interpretados no seu próprio estilo. Entre os artistas que participam ou abertamente envolvidos no projeto estão Vusi Mahlasela , Louis Mhlanga , Clarence Bekker , Tal Ben Ari (Tula) , Bono , 'Mo' Keb , David Broza , Manu Chao e Grandpa Elliott .
 No reggae music tem ótimos representantes como Rocky Dawuni de Gana, e as performers incluem vários hits de Bob Marley,como War " / " No More Trouble,One Love,Three Little Birds..
O projeto do primeiro single " Stand By Me ", começou com uma Santa Monica artista de rua chamado Roger Ridley (já falecido).  A dupla viajou o mundo, registrando cada vez mais músicos. Todas estas versões foram consideradas para a mixagem de uma versão pastiche final.O projeto do vídeo"Stand by Me"  foi em linha popular, com mais de 43 milhões de acessos no YouTube .A Playing for Change Foundation é uma organização sem fins lucrativos , dedicada a criar e apoiar as escolas de música, principalmente nos países em desenvolvimento. Três escolas de música, e um total de sete programas de música foram criados desde 2008:

    CD / DVD. Uma compilação de CD / DVD Playing for Change: Songs Around The World foi lançado em 2009 sobre o rótulo Concord Music Group . O CD tem 10 músicas. O DVD tem sete faixas, incluindo versões em vídeo de cinco das canções que apareceram no CD, além de um filme de vídeo, The Playing for Change Foundation . O DVD também contém um trailer de três minutos de um documentário Peace Through Music .Em outubro de 2009, um documentário de 83 minutos,Peace Through Music , dirigido por Mark Johnson e Jonathan Paredes, foi lançado em DVD. Os diretores e sua tripulação viajaram peloo mundo e na gravação os músicos filmaram em lugares como EUA, Barcelona, ​​na Irlanda, no Oriente Médio, Índia, Nepal e África do Sul. O filme inclui os clipes do CD / DVD, entrevistas e apresentações musicais.  O site da Playing For Change também vende as faixas em MP3 formato via download, embora esta seja limitada aos clientes dos EUA apenas. O álbum também foi lançado no iTunes em abril de 2009..
