SLY AND ROBBIE

Sly And Robbie é a equipe jamaicana mais prolífica de seção e da produção de ritmo ,o baterista Sly Dunbar e do baixista Robbie Shakespeare que se juntaram nos meados dos anos 1970 ,e em seguida se estabeleceram separadamente na Jamaica como músicos profissionais. Sly and Robbie são estimados por ter tocado ou ter produzido mais de 200.000 gravações, muitas delas em sua própria etiqueta, Taxi Records.Sly Dunbar, então rufando para Skin Flesh and Bones , e Robbie tocando o baixo com The Aggrovators, descobriram que tinham as mesmas idéias sobre a música geralmente (ambos são admiradores enormes da Motown, Stax Records, The Philly Sound, e da música country, além dos estúdios legendários jamaicanos Studio One e Treasure Isle), e a produção da reggae em particular. Trabalharam primeiramente junto com The Revolutionaries para o estúdio e a etiqueta recentemente criados Channel One, operados pelos irmãos Hoo Kim. O duo mudou a cara do reggae diversas vezes: em 1976, introduziram uma batida mais dura chamada " Rockers" , que substituiu rapidamente o estlo predominante de então,o "One Drop", introduzido então o "rub a dub"  no princípio dos anos 80. Sly e Robbie foram importantes em desenvolver a tendência para o computador ,a música ajudada pela programação nos meados dos anos 1980. Chris Blackwell fez-lhes o núcleo do Compass Point All Stars , a banda de gravação de Nassau (Bahamas) baseada nos estúdios Compass Point que produziu registros clássicos para a Grace Jones,Joe Cocker e Gwen Guthrie, entre muitos outros. Tiveram um número 12 nas cartas do Reino Unido em 1987 com "Boops (Here to Go)"; que Robbie Williams provou mais tarde para seu single Rudebox. No começo dos anos 90 introduziram um som novo com os sucessos "Bam Bam" e "Murder She Wrote"  por  Chaka Demus and Pliers. Os vocais ásperos do DJ Chaka Demus foram combinados com o canto doce, melódico e influenciado pelo soul de Pliers; este emparelhamento vocal incomum foi patrocinado por Sly e Robbie. Esta fórmula tem sido usada desde então com grande sucesso por artistas como Shabba Ranks ,Shaggy,Maxi Priest e outros. Em 1979,Sly Dunbar e Robbie Shakespeare tocaram com Peter Tosh na excursão de Bush Doctor,e Sly e Robbie continuaram a inovar durante os anos 90 e os anos 2000s, o Dancehall de fusão e os sons latinos da música (La Trenggae) ou o Dancehall e hip hop/RandB  (seu riddim de 2004 Big Up riddim). Tiveram uma segunda parte superior nas cartas inglesas número 40  em 1997, com a colaboração com Simply Red em uma cover de Gregory Isaacs " Night Nurse" , alcançando o número 13. Em 1999, seu  álbum "Strip to the Bone" emparelhou-os com o produtor de electro Howie B, e junto exploraram territórios novos do dub. Seu single de 1999  "Superthruster" deste álbum tornou-se uma batida no grosso da população sendo tocado na MTV freqüentemente. A razão para isso foi indubitavelmente não somente a batida de pulsação mas o vídeo animado de alta qualidade no estilo sinistro do Anime. Mostrou Sly e Robbie nas batalhas siderais que perseguiam um Harlequin através de um complexo tecnológico. Longe de restringir-se à cena jamaicana, (em qual tocaram par cada artista musical jamaicano proeminente de Peter Tosh, Black Uhuru, Gregory Isaacs, Dennis Brown,Ini Kamoze,aos mais novos como Beenie Man,Sean Paul e muitos outros), tocaram com artistas de outros estilos tais como Ben Harper, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, the Rolling Stones, Grace Jones, Joan Armatrading, Gilberto Gil, Joe Cocker, Matisyahu, Serge Gainsbourg, Simply Red, Michael Franti, Sting, Khaled, Mey Vidal, Tricky, Doug E. Fresh, Carlos Santana, Sinéad O'Conno, e outros.Produziram os hits do No Doubt's "Hey Baby" e  "Underneath It All". Após 30 anos tocando juntos, ainda excursionam e gravam implacávelmente. Em 2005, excursionaram com Tony Rebel e Half Pint. Durante o verão de 2005, excursionaram na Europa e no Reino Unido com Bunny Rugs, vocalista para o Third World. Durante o fim de 2005 estavam na estrada com Sinéad O' Connor, em Agosto de 2006, apareceram com Don Carlos no festival Reggae on the River ,e em agosto 2007 executaram em uma excursão nos Estados Unidos e no Canadá ocidentais junto com a cantora de dancehall,soul e a atriz Cherine Anderson. Produziram diversos novos artistas jamaicanos novos sua etiqueta Taxi, incluindo Kibaki, Mynimoo e Zennlocc, assim como estrelas mundiais confirmadas tais como Elephant Man e Buju Banton, para quem cedeu o instrumental da canção de 1982 "Unmetered Taxi". Em 2006, gravaram com seu grupo original, The Revolutionaries, para produzir o novo álbum de Horace Andy  " Livin' In up" e produziram diversos sucessos para Cherine Anderson. No ano de 2007, colaboraram com o rapper italiano Jovanotti no álbum Safari, igualmente produziram trilhas para o ex Beatle Paul McCartney e Britney Spears. Em 2009, gravaram o novo álbum de Bitty McLean , que produziram com Bitty e seu velho amigo e associado Guilherme Bougard, saiu e foi aclamado imediatamente como o melhor álbum do reggae do ano. Excursionaram Japão, Marrocos (festival de Mawazine) e Europa com Bitty para apresentar o álbum. Um DVD do concerto de Paris foi preparado para a liberação em 2010.Sly e Robbie produziram quatro canções para o EP de Cherine Anderson " The Introduction-Dubstyle" . O segundo single  "Shine On Jamaica", que foi produzido pelo duo, repicou no número um por quatro semanas nas cartas do reggae da Flórida..
Continuam trabalhando incansávelmente,gravando seus próprios discos,ou produzindo outros artistas..
 Sempre ocupados, quando não estão na estrada, Sly And Robbie podem ser encontrados em seus estúdios em Kingston. Eles estão atualmente dando os retoques finais ao novo álbum de Khalifa G.Riot 2012 e no novo álbum de Bitty McLean...
